Providing a brief clinical scenario increased internal medicine residents' diagnostic accuracy for cardiac valvular lesions, although, interestingly, their ability to identify specific physical examination findings did not change. The authors hypothesize that knowledge of the clinical scenario simply led residents to generate heuristics, which could actually increase the risk of diagnostic error.
