Surgical checklists have been shown to prevent adverse events in research studies, but they have been more difficult to implement in general practice. In this observational study conducted at an academic medical center, the checklist was incorporated into a surgical flight board—an electronic display in the operating room that included patient information as well as decision support. Adherence to key elements of the safety checklist improved after the flight board was implemented.
