Leadership WalkRounds have been described as an effective tool for improving safety culture. This randomized field study implemented WalkRounds in 56 work areas from 19 hospitals over 18 months. The program led to an unanticipated significant decrease in perceived performance improvement compared with control work areas. The authors found that senior manager visits to the frontlines will not necessarily increase staff perceptions of performance improvement.
