The relationship between lower nurse-to-patient ratios and inpatient mortality has been demonstrated in classic studies. This survey found that nurses' perceptions of adequate staffing and quality in inpatient settings were associated with improved 30-day mortality rates, underscoring the importance of the nursing perspective in patient safety.
