Pressures to rapidly adopt electronic health record (EHR) systems can affect the safety of their implementation and use. This review provides information about unintended consequences related to EHR use that have emerged given recent changes in information technologies. The authors highlight the challenges and opportunities these problems present to clinical informaticians.
