Safety leadership: a meta-analytic review of transformational and transactional leadership styles as antecedents of safety behaviours.
Committed and effective leadership is essential for improving organizational safety. This meta-analysis found that both transformational leadership (in which leaders inspire and motivate subordinates to achieve the organization's goals through their own personal development) and transactional leadership (where leaders identify tasks for their subordinates and set clear expectations and goals) play a role in engaging staff in safety efforts and ensuring adherence to safety policies.
