People of color experience poorer maternal health outcomes than their white counterparts. This paper describes the perinatal care experiences of women of color and recommendations for ways providers and systems could improve their care. Recommendations for providers include the inclusion of patients as partners in decision making and spending quality time with them. Recommendations for health care systems include implicit bias training and education to reduce judgment, stereotyping, and discrimination and promote continuity of care.
