Exposures to structural racism and racial discrimination among pregnant and early post-partum Black women living in Oakland, California.
Black women experience high rates of severe maternal morbidity and mortality. This study sought to understand pregnant or early post-partum Black women's exposure to structural racism and discrimination. 92% of the women reported at least one instance of experiencing discrimination, with almost 60% experiencing three or more. Exposure to structural racism and discrimination may put pregnant Black women at increased risk for adverse maternal outcomes.
