Skill assessments are necessary to identify biases and behaviors that detract from effective clinical reasoning. This review analyzed evidence on clinical reasoning assessment methods used outside the practice environment, in simulated clinical situations, and on the front line. Although a variety of methods were identified, the authors highlight the need for further research to rigorously evaluate clinical reasoning assessment tools.
